Traditional Taijiquan, like other martial arts, is divided into cultural and martial arts training.

Wen is the body; Wu is the use. The body is the basis of use, and the use is the ability of the body.

Spectrum cloud: “Man without the preparation of martial arts, for the body without use; martial arts without the partner of the text, for the usefulness of no body. If a single tree is difficult to support, a lone palm does not sound.” It points out the complementary and indispensable relationship between cultural and martial arts training.

What is literary training and what is martial arts training?

Wen practice, also known as wen gong, is a line of techniques, yin, soft, and focuses on internal energy;

Wushu practice, also called wugong, is a combat technique, which is yang, rigid in nature and focuses on practicing skills.

The practice of taijiquan is to practice the essence, energy, spirit and intention through the organic and reasonable cooperation of intention, breathing, movement and speed. By practicing in writing, it can help to relieve tendons and bones, activate qi and blood, stabilize yin and yang of the human body, and train the internal qi of the dantian, so as to achieve the purpose of strengthening the body and consolidating the foundation. Once used in actual combat, with the techniques, the body is light, and the internal qi is not transported to itself, and is sent out at will (“at will” is “at will”, not “at random”).

Wen practice method is a high-level practice method in the internal martial arts training, because of its main practice “inside”, that is, “internal practice a breath”, solid at first glance, the body movements appear to be soothing and soft, loose and round and stable, generally do not show a quick and compact, rigid shape, and even more obvious. Although it is quite similar to the fitness practice of Taijiquan which is popular nowadays, it is not the same in essence and practice.

The fitness practice of Taijiquan emphasizes only the “standardization” of the appearance of movements, just like the practice of imitation Song characters and art styles, which at first glance are “horizontal and vertical” and neat step by step, but when examined in detail, they do not have much cultural connotation, lack the underlying skills and cannot stand up to scrutiny. The traditional practice of Taijiquan, like traditional calligraphy, not only pays attention to the beginning and end of each move, but also pays more attention to the cooperation between thoughts and breathing, the coordination between breathing and movement, and the correspondence between movement and speed, i.e., it not only talks about the “external triad” and “internal triad”, but also says that The potentials are not only about “external three harmonies” and “internal three harmonies”, but also about “the potentials are stored in the heart and the premise is with the intention”.

Therefore, although the general Taijiquan fitness practice can also play a certain fitness effect through mental internal guarding, relaxation of limbs and soothing coordination of movements, after all, it is not the “cultural practice” of martial arts, which generally does not produce internal qi, and even sweating does not occur. Sweating is one of the signs of practicing kung fu. Practice sweating and sweating due to hot weather or other sports is fundamentally different, it is the Ying, Wei and the two qi role of the results, even in the winter lying in bed practicing kung fu can also sweat like rain. It is worth mentioning that some people because of chance and acquaintance with one or two “authentic heirs”, followed a few days, they thought they had the true tradition, but ultimately, because of the practice of gas, but also to justify themselves, and even claimed that the experience of the predecessor is the result of the lack of culture and do not understand the results of science, but in fact it is the “Hanlin university students” practice not method. In fact, it is these “Hanlin university scholars” who are not allowed to practice. In fact, it is these “Hanlin university scholars” who are not practicing the method. Because, even if they have been truly passed on, they still have to really practice in order to have real skills. Moreover, it is not enough to rely solely on cultural practice, but also to have martial arts practice as the foundation.

The cultural practice of taijiquan is centered on practicing intention, practicing internal qi, growing internal strength, strengthening the body, defending the body, and aiming at self-defense, which is a form of practice in traditional martial arts, but it is by no means a fitness exercise.

Though Wen Zhi is mainly practicing internal qi, it still emphasizes on techniques in every move and every stance, so it is much more advanced than pure martial arts practice. Though Wen Zhi is Wen Zhi, it is also the highest level of technical combat practice.

The technique of taijiquan is not to push around after two people have built up their hands, but it is a loose hand. Pushing hands is only a way to train listening strength, and generally cannot be used in actual combat, so the two should not be mixed up. Taijiquan, like other styles of boxing, is technical in nature, and no matter what kind of boxing the other side is, and no matter what stance the other side uses, and from what angle the other side strikes, they can fight, and whether they win or lose is another matter, and depends on factors such as the strength of the person, the use of the technique, and the psychology of the person in the fight.

The practice of literature must be based on the practice of martial arts, especially taijiquan. If Wu Gongyi only knew how to push hands, he would not have been able to hit his opponent on the bridge of the nose with a skimming hammer in the midst of his opponent’s fierce attack. It can be said that even if one has internal strength, one may not be able to deal with technical attacks, because strength and technique are complementary to each other, and they follow each other. The principle that both skills and techniques are important for self-defense and technical combat must be followed is the so-called “unity of skills and techniques”.

If it is said that the literary practice of wushu is to promote the technique with internal power, then the martial arts practice of wushu is to show the internal power with technique. Boxing without technique is not honorable, and technique without gong is not necessary. Practicing without techniques is not boxing. Some people say that Dacheng Quan does not use techniques, but it is not true. If one thinks that one can release a person from ten feet away with one’s hand and make him fall on his face with one’s hand alone, then either the insider has deliberately omitted the description of the techniques, or the outsider has not seen the techniques. There is nothing more magical than this description of Taijiquan.

In fact, without a stable fighting mentality and more skillful fighting techniques, the same is not possible to respond to urgent movements, not possible to follow slow movements, not able to go up, not able to receive, not able to eliminate, not able to send out.

Inner strength is actually an internal ability. That is, the human potential, everyone has, but it varies from person to person and from time to time and from thing to thing, that is, people usually say that there is only a difference between high and low kung fu. People who do not practice kung fu are not easy to mobilize this potential under normal circumstances, often only in a hurry. But people who practice internal kungfu, due to the usual practice of kungfu has developed the habit of “no one in front of me seems to be someone”, “walking, sitting and lying down do not leave this”, therefore, once encountered a situation immediately can “like Burning Body ”, immediately mobilized human potential, faster than normal, more powerful than normal, which is not surprising.

Boxing this can not, there is also empty law, moving that is the law. A law does not stand, can not be tolerated, literature and martial arts practice method is the law. Do not deeply understand these truths, not repeatedly verified in practice, will not be able to climb the peak of martial arts. Many people practicing martial arts for many years can not respond to the war, especially the practice of taijiquan will only push hands, can not deal with other boxing boxing, which is often up on the text practice, do not pay attention to or will not be the result of martial arts practice. So, in the push hands, they tell others not to exert themselves and give them a punch in the cold. The only way to solve this problem is to raise awareness of martial arts practice and strengthen it.

Wushu practice is the basic practice of traditional wushu, and it is the foundation. It is a training mainly based on techniques and is a combat technique.

Wu practice of Taijiquan emphasizes the neatness of the work frame, changes in details, correct direction, clever angle and deep penetration of strength. The low frame in the traditional practice of Wu Style Taijiquan belongs to martial practice. Compared with the middle and high stances, it has a low stance, small steps, strict details and fast work, which is very popular among practitioners, but at the same time, it is also discouraging to many people because of the great difficulty.

For example, the starting position of the horse stance palm, the requirements of the thigh squatting flat still keep the upper body in the center, the center of gravity right to a leg to be smooth, not to have ups and downs. At the same time, the waist and hips should be completely relaxed, with no stiffness in any part of the body. When walking the frame, flash and move, step like a snake, body like a swimming dragon, as if it were a shock. Its folding and turning off the place, the strength seems to be broken, layered, flexible and colorful. This kind of practice is not easy to be accepted by the middle-aged and the elderly, and it is not easy to be popularized like the Wen practice.

If Taiji seniors had disclosed the martial arts practice method and martial arts frame, even if the movements were practiced slowly, I am afraid that it would be difficult for so many middle-aged and old-aged people to participate in the practice, and there would not be the bustling landscape of contemporary “Hanlin scholars” competing with each other to publish books on Taiji. Because the fact will let the “Hanlin” understand: just rely on general fitness practice or purely cultural practice, to produce “four or two pounds”, “eighty years old,” the kung fu, is also unrealistic.

In addition to set training, martial arts training methods also include single form, power generation and sound generation, as well as docking and feeding training, and also practicing platoon fighting. However, all the contents of martial arts training are scientific and do not violate physiological characteristics. Such as the proper practice of hitting sandbags, mainly to feel the stress in the technique, never hard hitting brute force, in order to hit a hand callus for the “work”.

No thesis practice or martial arts practice, should be carried out under the guidance of the teacher, especially when the beginning of enlightenment, the teacher is more important. The teacher is more important, especially when you start to learn. You should be taught orally to lead the way to the door, and you can’t learn kungfu by reading books and watching videos. Taijiquan traditional techniques are quite delicate, the requirements are quite strict, even under the guidance of the teacher, it is not very fast to get started, do not think that looking at the book to learn can really become a talent, self-study must have the foundation and then carry out.

Mountain high road people sparse. To really learn to practice Taijiquan and improve the art of Taijiquan, it is necessary to give equal importance to the practice of literature and martial arts, and to follow the law of opposites, mutual rooting, elimination and transformation. The way of literature and martial arts is one and one; the way of boxing is one and one; the way of technique is one and one. It contains one soft and one hard, one internal and one external, one function and one technique, one static and one change.

No change in technique is relative and temporary, while change is absolute and continuous. Yang does not leave yin, yin does not leave yang, yang exhausts yin, yin exhausts yang. There is yin in yang and yang in yin; yin and yang are born from each other and grow together. The rationale is mutual rooting, transformation and elimination. The practice of literature is yin, and the practice of martial arts is yang. Yang is born for yin, and yin grows for yang. Literature and martial arts emphasize each other, and both body and application are strong. In the final analysis, the literary and martial practice of Taijiquan is to practice internal work, improve boxing skills, and achieve a high degree of unity between work and skills, which is the same as that of other boxing arts. It is difficult to become an artist without skills, and one’s body is empty without skills. This is the right way to practice Taijiquan and other martial arts.
