1, Experience of Bigu

Basic principle of the universe: emptiness generates consciousness, energy generates matter. It can be seen that a person’s consciousness plays an important role in the changes of his own and surrounding energy.

Therefore, if you want to purify and improve your own body (which is actually a dense form of energy) and integrate with the surrounding energy, you must always maintain peace in your inner state in life. On this basis, you can further feel positive and positive moods such as “gratitude”, “blessing”, “love” and “compassion”. As the saying goes, “relaxation leads to communication”, a peaceful and stable heart can promote the flow of energy, while negative emotions will lead to energy blockage, so in life, you must control and reduce negative emotions and actively promote selfless love, more tolerance and understanding~

This is the so-called “meditation and energy”, which is the basis of all things.

On the basis of this meditation, you can also use visualization, that is, use imagination to guide energy, and the effect is better.

    2, Bigu precautions and methods

Bigu time: Depending on the length of personal practice time, health status, and psychological state, the length of Bigu time varies. It can be as short as one or two days or as long as dozens of days or even longer. Generally speaking, it should be more than three days. People with average physical fitness should persist for 7 days or more, and people with good practice should persist for more than 49 days.

The first time of fasting should not be too long. Safety should be the top priority and naturalness should be the measure. Do not subjectively extend the time for medical treatment, improvement of skills or other reasons. It should be gradual and not deliberately pursue the length of time. During the fasting period, according to the actual situation, fast when you want to fast, stop when you want to stop, let nature take its course and make yourself feel comfortable.

3, The degree of fasting should be properly controlled

Reference 1: Fasting can be divided into the following types according to the degree

        (1) Complete fasting: During the fasting period, no rice or water is consumed, and the supply of food and water is completely cut off. Energy and information are directly exchanged with the outside world, and human potential is fully mobilized to complete various metabolisms of the human body. This situation is rarely used. It is best to be carried out under the supervision of a well-trained practitioner. Pay attention to safety and make sure not to feel too hungry. Do not blindly pursue the length of time.

        (2) Almost complete fasting: Do not eat grains or pills, but can drink water and honey, and can also eat a small amount of fruit. This method can be used by people with normal physical conditions and is relatively safe.

        (3) Half fasting: In addition to drinking water and honey, you can also eat a small amount of fruits, peanuts, walnuts, red dates, walnuts, almonds and other medicinal foods until you are no longer hungry. This method is more suitable for first-time fasting or weak people.

        (4) Almost half fasting: Basically do not eat cooked food, but can eat more fruits, vegetables and other miscellaneous foods, and even eat porridge and noodles, etc., and can also eat some vegetarian dishes. This method is more suitable for people with psychological disorders or who are particularly weak. Reference 2: Bigu fasting can be divided into two types according to its manifestations

Full fasting refers to not eating a grain of rice, not drinking a drop of water, or only drinking a few sips of water to moisten the mouth, or taking a few dates to nourish saliva, swallowing a few spoons of honey to lubricate the stomach and intestines, and not eating anything else. The body directly absorbs the nutrients or water needed by the human body from nature, and fully mobilizes the human body’s “endogenous nutrition” to complete various metabolisms of the human body.

Half fasting refers to eating some fruits, vegetables and other miscellaneous foods in addition to drinking water and honey. You can even eat some porridge or some cold vegetarian dishes according to the actual situation. Half fasting is suitable for people with heavy psychological burdens and those who are particularly weak.

4, Diet control for bigu fasting

        (1) When starting bigu fasting, the diet can be gradually reduced, and reduced to a half-fast or nearly full-fast state within two or three days. You can also start directly and enter the bigu state directly. At the end of bigu fasting, when resuming diet, you should pay attention to gradual recovery and not rush. At first, it is advisable to eat porridge or rice gruel. In addition, you can eat a small amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid eating raw and cold fish and spicy foods. You can eat fish and meat only after you have fully recovered from eating for a week.

        (2) During the fasting period, you can eat appropriate amounts of dried and fresh fruits and nutritional medicines. Common ones include: red dates, sesame seeds, Polygonatum, Polygonatum, Lycium barbarum, black beans, Asparagus cochinchinensis, Ophiopogon japonicus, Poria cocos, White Peony Root, Yu Yuliang, Red and White Lithospermum officinale, Atractylodes macrocephala, etc.

        (3) It has been proven in practice that drinking a few cups of honey water every day during the fasting period is very helpful. It is advisable to drink warm water, and drinking more is also fine. During the fasting period, you should stop eating but not stop drinking water. You should ensure a sufficient supply of water and drink slowly in small sips. Excessive dehydration is harmful to the body.

        (4) During the fasting period, you do not abstain from alcohol. You can drink in moderation, but not in excess. Excessive consumption will cause greater harm than usual.

5, Adhere to rest and breathe in the air as the first priority of fasting

Those who practice qigong do not necessarily practice fasting, but those who practice fasting must also practice qigong, so “fasting and breathing in the air” are mentioned together. For specific methods, please refer to the “Reference of Exercises” later in the text. One point that is particularly emphasized is that swallowing saliva should be strengthened. Swallowing saliva, breathing in the air, and resting should complement each other.

During the fasting period, excessive and intense physical activities should be avoided. Try to avoid emotional stimulation and avoid major emotional fluctuations to keep your mind calm. Limit your sexual life and cherish your essence and qi.  6. Physiological and metabolic changes

          (1) Weight changes: From the first to the fifth day of fasting, weight loss is most obvious, with an average weight loss of 1 to 2 kilograms per day. From the fifth day onwards, the weight loss is 0.5 to 1 kilogram per day. After that, the weight loss is almost always in a certain decreasing manner (sometimes there are exceptions, depending on each person’s own physical factors and cooperation).

          (2) Changes in physiological functions: During the fasting period, the blood pressure of patients with hypertension will drop significantly, while that of patients with hypotension will rise. However, vision, hearing and touch will become sharper, and memory and associative ability will also be enhanced. The number of white blood cells does not change in the first week of fasting, but begins to increase on the 7th day and increases rapidly from the 11th day, increasing by 1.57 times or more per day, indicating that fasting can improve the body’s immunity.

Some fasters have bitter and astringent mouths at the beginning of the fasting period, their tongue coating turns white and thick, they have a bad smell, their stools are loose, some are black-green, or even smelly, and some have pus, blood or rotten meat. The urine is yellow and the complexion is dull. These are all phenomena of clearing and excreting toxins. After the toxins are cleared, they will soon return to normal.

          (3) In the first three to five days of fasting, a considerable number of students will experience discomfort. During this period, you may feel tired, weak legs, dizzy, or even feel a lack of energy. These are all normal reactions. As long as you are firm in your mind, calm, and strengthen the practice of auxiliary exercises, all kinds of discomfort will disappear. As the time of fasting increases, after the adaptation period, you will feel light and healthy, energetic, and have an indescribable sense of comfort and pleasure.

          (4) During the fasting period, there will be a reaction of qi rushing to the lesion. For example, various reactions will occur at the lesion site, sometimes even more obvious and uncomfortable than normal. The original site that has been cured sometimes has different reactions. The phenomenon of qi rushing to the lesion is sometimes obvious and sometimes not. When the lesion is impacted, don’t worry or be afraid. After the impact, the condition will further improve or be completely cured. At the same time, you should observe and report the situation in time so that it can be dealt with in time.

6, Is there any difference between fasting therapy and fasting?

Answer: Modern Westerners agree with fasting. Buddhism and yoga also have this view. Now you can find many books on fasting. Fasting therapy has a complete theoretical basis. But there is still a fundamental difference between Bigu and fasting therapy.

          Essence and method:

Fasting does not advocate breathing, and there is no such thing as breathing technique. Fasters will be very hungry, and to persist depends on tenacious will. Bigu is a stable state, a natural reaction of the human body when the Qi reaches a certain stage, not imposed by external force. Occasionally, there is a feeling of hunger, but it can be solved by breathing. Its purpose is not to exercise will, but to strengthen the body!

          Physical and mental reaction:

Fasters will first feel hungry, with very strong physical and mental reactions, hungry, pale, hungry and thin, and in pain. This is the description of a friend of mine who fasted for seven days. In addition, many people will experience dizziness, nausea, vomiting, lack of energy, bed rest, etc.! Bigu does not have a very strong reaction, no pain, free movement, normal life, normal work, and even strenuous exercise (but it should be avoided as much as possible during the initial adaptation period, and the movement should be gentle, such as walking, etc.), and even more energetic than usual, and most importantly, the mind is more flexible.

          Refeeding process:

Fasting attaches great importance to the refeeding process, believing that refeeding determines the effectiveness of fasting, and that improper handling can damage the body and even endanger life…

There are no strict regulations for refeeding in Bigu, because entering the Bigu state is a natural process. One day, you feel hungry and your gastrointestinal motility speeds up. If you cannot eliminate hunger by taking Qi, it proves that Bigu is over. Within the first two or three days of eating, don’t eat too much or too heavy.

          Theoretical basis:

Fasting is based on Western culture, and it considers nutrition, substances, and vitamins…

Chinese Taoist Bigu is based on Chinese culture, focusing on the harmony and integration between man and nature. Physiological function: When fasting and not eating, the stomach moves, and gastric acid continues to secrete

The Bigu state has changed, the stomach stops and slows down, and gastric acid secretion decreases…

          Body’s attitude:

Fasting has many strong reactions that cannot be avoided, so the body will be shocked every time it is done. The next time the body fasts, it will naturally produce a fear and a rejection! There is almost no reaction during fasting. You will often feel light and healthy, clear-minded, and have many wonderful reactions that you cannot feel when eating normally. It is a kind of feeling that can relax your body and mind and truly experience happiness. Each time you fast, the corresponding channels of the body will be further melted. The main channels of blood and qi in the body are very smooth, and the tributaries are very clean, without siltation. The more you do it, the simpler it will be. The body will have an impulse and a dependence. The more you do it, the more your body likes this special method. At a certain time, this feeling will appear by itself…

8, how long is the interval between two fasting?

Not necessarily. Assuming that each fasting lasts 7 days, it is generally recommended to have an interval of 2-3 months. The frequency of fasting is not important. What is important is whether you practice frequently during the interval, eat less and exercise more. For friends who want to lose weight, you can exercise and not eat after noon, and only fast 2 to 3 times a year. It can also achieve good results. For friends who are treating diseases, they should pay more attention to keeping a peaceful mind and practicing in daily life. There is no need to pursue the frequency and depth of fasting.

9, can women fast during menstruation?

Yes. Practice has found that fasting can make women’s physiological cycle more stable and regular. For friends who want to lose weight, the effect of fasting during menstruation is better than other times.

10, I have been fasting for 10 days, why haven’t I had bowel movements?

As long as fasting begins, the body and mind have changed. Some people have not had bowel movements for 15 days without affecting the effect. The theory of stool retention is just a convenient way of saying it, and there is no need to force it.

11, Who is not suitable for fasting?

Many people are not suitable for fasting. It is recommended that those who have the idea of fasting start the preparation for fasting under the guidance of professionals.

Those who are skeptical about fasting are not suitable for fasting.

Those who know nothing about fasting are not suitable for fasting.

Those who are obsessed with profit are not suitable for fasting.

Patients with acute diseases (such as appendicitis, traumatic bleeding, etc.) are not suitable for fasting.

Those who only know to seek medical treatment but not health care (that is, those who only know three-point treatment but not seven-point care) are not suitable for fasting.

Those who are eager for success are not suitable for fasting.
