As the saying goes, “Life lies in exercise”. Of course, the complete saying is “Life lies in scientific exercise”. Everyone’s individual situation is different. Exercise should be scientific. Over-emphasizing movement or over-advocating stillness is not good for health. Exercise should be moderate and suitable for your physical condition. Tai Chi is a sport suitable for people of different ages, and the amount of exercise can be large or small. This article focuses on the health-preserving effect of Tai Chi, which has and is not limited to the following aspects:
- Expanded lung capacity. Usually we often breathe in the chest, which limits people’s lung capacity and directly affects the strength of human body functions. Tai Chi uses abdominal reverse breathing to expand lung capacity and enhance the comprehensive function of the human body.
- Strengthened blood circulation function. Tai Chi is practiced continuously. In terms of fighting skills, it is to practice and strengthen internal strength; in terms of human physiology, it is to exercise blood vessels including microvessels throughout the body. During each exercise, blood vessels frequently contract and expand. Practicing Tai Chi every day can strengthen the blood vessel wall, dredge the meridians, and strengthen the blood circulation function.
- Promote metabolism. Tai Chi is an internal martial art. Long-term practice can improve endocrine and gastrointestinal function. It can promote metabolism very well.
- Improve the sensitivity of the nervous system. Every time Tai Chi is practiced, it is first of all a kind of movement of the mind, and then a physical movement, which is what people often say is both form and spirit. It is precisely because of this characteristic of Tai Chi that nerve aging is delayed. Even in old age, most practitioners are not deaf, blurred, and their feet are not heavy, and their bodies are flexible.
- Delay the aging of bones, joints, and ligaments. During the practice of Tai Chi, fingers, wrists, shoulders, and waists are constantly rotated, hips are stretched, tendons are pulled, and twists are twisted. All these movements are completed in arcs and circles. It can strengthen the elasticity and flexibility of the muscles, bones, skin and internal organs of the whole body, and can delay aging.
- Improve the quality of sleep. Practicing Tai Chi requires concentration and calmness, which can adjust the impetuous mood. With the appropriate amount of exercise, people’s sleep quality will be better.
